FAQs

How do I playback and watch Footage on the Defender HD and Defender HD Wireless 1080p Security System?

Your Defender HD DVR can be programmed to record twenty-four hours a day, or to be triggered by motion. Either way, the process of reviewing your footage is the same.
Once you identify the time frame in which an event occurred, you will need to locate it within the DVR.

Locate your footage by following these steps:

  • Open the main menu
  • Select Record Search
  • Select the channels you would like to search for footage under Playback channel

From here, you can either enter a specific start time and end time or select a half hour period from the calendar above.

Once you click play, you will be taken to the playback screen. Here, you’ll see the footage and time frame you selected. If you want to view another day, select the date and channel from the top left of the screen.

Select the playback type:

General: Continuous recordings
Events: Motion triggered recordings
Pictures: Snapshots captured based on the capture menu options

Continuous recordings will appear as a green bar along the bottom of the screen, events such as motion will appear yellow.

Once you click play, you can click along these yellow or green bars to search through the timeline.

Once you’ve found the footage you need to save, pause the footage and insert your USB thumb drive, this must be 32 Gigabytes or less. If you have a Defender HD Wireless system, the drive should be inserted in the front USB port. If the mouse is already connected, remove the wireless receiver and connect the mouse to the rear USB port.

Along the playback options bar, you will see an icon with a pair of scissors, this is the clip button. While your footage is playing, click this to start a clip. Once the event you need to back up has ended, click the button again, it will have changed to a disc icon showing that the footage will now be saved.

The next menu will give you the option to save your file as RF or H 2 6 4, A V I, or M P 4. Select A V I or M P 4 for easy playback on most computers.

Click Save

This menu will show the contents of the USB drive. Click OK to begin the back-up process. Backup Successful will appear at the bottom of the screen once complete, right click to exit this menu.

You can now insert your USB drive into your computer or provide it to the authorities if needed.

If you need to back up a large amount of footage, you can do so by opening the Events menu under Record search, here you can search the date and time, select blocks of footage and either use quick backup to save the entire time frame selected, or click the check boxes, then backup to save specific files. The same USB screen will appear to complete backup.

How do I do I restore my video feed or picture on my Defender system?

In this video, we’ll walk you through the process of troubleshooting a blank camera image or loss of video signal on Defender HD.

  • Camera to DVR.
  • Camera to Power Splitter.
  • Power Splitter to Power Adapter.
  • Power adapter to wall outlet.
  • Unplug the camera from power and plug it back in.
  • Switch the Yellow BNC connection on the back of the DVR to a known working video channel
  • Remove the camera and power adapter from the four-way power splitter.
  • Connect the non-working camera directly to the power adapter.

How do I install and setup the Defender HD App on an Android Smartphone?

The steps contained in this walkthrough are generalized and applicable to most phones running Android 4.0.3 and up.

Before you begin, you must have already logged into your DVR using a TV or Computer monitor and completed the first-time setup wizard, creating a username and password to log into the DVR itself. Be sure to write this password down, you will need it to access the DVR in the future. If you haven’t completed these steps, please watch our Defender HD Setup Wizard Video.

The first step in this process will be to download the Defender HD app from Google Play. This app is designed only for High Definition Defender HD DVRs and will not work with older models.

For older models such as 21000 series, please download the ClearVu App.

Once the app is installed, a Defender HD account will need to be created if this hasn’t already been done on your smartphone. Each DVR can be added to one account, to access the system on multiple devices, you will need to use the same account. The Defender HD account password, must contain letters and numbers for stronger account security. This password is different from the one you created on the DVR.

When you log into the app, you’ll see a screen with a grid and several icons.

At this point, you will need to add your DVR to the account.

To add the DVR to the account:

  • Tap the icon in the top right of the live view screen, this will take you to the device menu.
  • Tap the plus sign in the top right to add a new device

Select new device and you will be shown the following options:

  • Device Name: This can be anything want, for example Home DVR.
  • Login Type: For easy setup, Device ID is selected.
  • Device ID: Click the QR Icon to scan the QR code on the top of the DVR, or enter the Device ID manually, the number is found on the QR code sticker on the DVR.
  • Media port: Confirm this number on the network menu of your DVR – by default, enter 9000.
  • Username: admin by default, if you’ve changed the username on the DVR, it must match here. This is the username and password you wrote down earlier.
  • Password: Enter your 6 to 8 digit password created on the DVR.
  • Channels: This will auto fill with the number of channels on your DVR.

Once you’ve filled in all of the information, tap save. If the information is correct, the app will revert to the live view and show your cameras.

If the cameras don’t automatically load in the grid area, tap the plus sign in the center of the camera view. You will be taken to a device and camera selection screen. Choose the camera you want to display in that view.

To increase the quality of your camera feed, you can select the Image Quality icon and switch between High Quality and Standard Quality. High Quality will use more data so it is recommended it be used only on WiFi.
