How do I set up the Defender 24-7 App with the Defender 4K (8MP) DVR Security System?

You can view your Defender 4K system anywhere you have your phone with the Defender 24-7 App. In this video, we will take you through the process of signing up with the Defender 24-7 app and linking it to your DVR.

How do I watch and save footage on my Defender 4K (8MP) DVR Security System?

To review your recorded footage, right click to access the quick menu.

After you enter your password, click Playback.

On the right side of the screen, select the cameras from which you want to view recordings.

If there’s footage from that camera, the calendar will highlight the dates where recordings exist. The color of the date will vary from Blue for continuous recording, or red for motion recording.
Double click the date you want to view.

A blue or red bar will appear at the bottom of the screen at times when footage was recorded.

Click and drag the yellow playback indicator to move quickly through footage, or use the playback functions at the bottom of the screen to fast forward, reverse or skip 30 seconds at a time.

To back up or save your video, insert a thumb drive with up to 32GB of memory.

To save a short period of time, you can use the Clipping button to start and stop a clip where you like.

Next, you’ll have the opportunity to select that file for backup.

When you export the file, you will also have to export the video player to view the footage.

Anyone who needs to watch the footage will need this software.

To back up large amounts of footage, you can use the export option found on the main menu.

Select the channel to search for footage.

Select the start and end date and time.

Click search.

A screen showing snapshots of footage will appear.

Click the checkbox in the top left corner of the snapshot to select it for backup.

Click Export with the USB thumb drive inserted.

Click export to save the footage.

Once you’ve moved the footage to the thumb drive, you can connect the drive to a USB port on your computer.

Open the drive when it loads on the computer and run the Player file.

Extract the Player_ml folder to your desktop and run the file player inside.

You can now use this software to view your files!

How do I setup and activate the Defender 4K (8MP) DVR Security System?

The first time you turn Defender 4K on, you will be taken through the Activation screen.

Throughout the menus of the Activation wizard, you will see references to IP cameras. Defender does not currently manufacture compatible IP cameras and setup of third-party IP cameras is not supported.

ADMIN PASSWORD
The system does not have a default password.
You will need to create an 8 to 16-digit password containing a combination of numbers, upper- and lower-case letters, and special characters.
At least 2 of these character types must be included.
This password is needed to set up mobile viewing on the Defender 24-7 app.
If you forget your password, we will cover the process of resetting it in another video, the steps are also available in the user manual.

IP Camera Activation
Enter the same admin password in this field. It will not affect the operation of the system as there are no IP cameras included.

SECURITY QUESTIONS:
Check this box to create 3 secret questions you can use to reset your password. Do not right-click on this screen! If you exit this screen, you will not be able to create your questions for password recovery.

EXPORT GUID:
Using this feature is optional but will save your password information to a USB thumb drive 32GB or smaller. To take advantage of this, insert a USB thumb drive into the front USB port on the DVR and click yes when prompted to export GUID.
On the next screen, select the folder in the USB drive where you want to save the file, then click Export.
Click back to exit this screen.

UNLOCK PATTERN:
Similar to a smartphone, you can set an unlock pattern to access the DVR settings. Click and drag using the mouse to set the pattern, at least 4 dots must be connected.

CAMERA LIST:
No Changes are Required on this screen.

LANGUAGE:
Select the menu language and click apply to continue.
The next screen will give you the option for the wizard to start the next time you reboot the DVR, click apply to continue.

TIME & DATE:
Use this screen to set the time zone, Date format, system date and time.
Click next once these are set.

NETWORK:
Lists your network settings, no changes are required on this screen.

MOBILE SETUP:

  1. To enable viewing on your smartphone, click enable.
  2. You will be prompted to create a verification code for use in your Defender 24-7 app. We recommend writing this code down for when you set up the app.
  3. At this stage, you can set up your mobile app.
  4. To use online features, you must agree to the service terms and privacy statement before proceeding. This information can be found within the app for your reference.
  5. Scanning the QR code once your account is configured will connect the DVR to the app.
  6. This QR code can also be found on the bottom of the DVR if you decide to set up smartphone viewing at a later time.
  7. Click next to continue.

PORTS/DDNS:
No changes are needed on this screen.

HARD DRIVE STATUS:
Here you will see the capacity and remaining space on your hard drive. If the hard drive is full, it will automatically overwrite older footage. You can confirm your DVR is recording by the flashing red light on the front panel.
To format, or clear the hard drive, click the Init button.

IP CAMERAS:
Continue past this screen by clicking next. Defender 4K does not include IP cameras for use with this model of DVR.

RECORDING OPTIONS:

Continuous:

  1. Click Continuous to set all cameras to record 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  2. Click Motion Detection to set all cameras to record only when motion is detected. This setting is recommended as it will record only when there is movement, storing only potentially useful footage.
  3. Clicking OK will close the setup wizard and your DVR will record using the settings you’ve configured.
  4. When the DVR is recording, you will see a Red film reel icon in the top right of the camera screen. If motion recording is set up, a bell icon will appear until motion occurs.

How do I reset my DVR password on my Defender 4K (8MP) DVR Security System?

Forgotten passwords happen! But if you have forgotten your Defender 4K DVR password, you can easily reset it using your password reminders, or a GUID file on a USB thumb drive.

To reset your password using password reset questions:

  1. Click Forgot Password, or Forgot my Pattern.
  2. Select Verify by GUID
  3. Insert the thumb drive with the GUID file you created during setup
  4. Select the file and click Import.
  5. You will be prompted to create a new password.
  6. You will need to create an 8 to 16-digit password containing a combination of numbers, upper- and lower-case letters, and special characters.
  7. You must include at least 2 of these characters.
  8. After creating a new password, you will be asked if you want to export a new GUID. Click OK.
  9. When asked to duplicate the password for IP camera activation, click Yes
  10. Now, draw a new unlock pattern.

Returns Policy 

We appreciate your interest in Defender products, and we understand that the things you buy don’t always work out as expected. If you would like to return your product(s), please make sure that you review this information so that your return(s) are processed without delay.  

For all “like new” or “as-new” condition products that you would like to return, follow the steps of the returns process within 45 days of receiving your order when purchased directly from us. If you purchased your Defender product elsewhere, please contact your authorized retailer for returns details. Please note:
 

  • All return requests must be made within 45 days of receiving your order. Returns must be received at our warehouse within 2 weeks of filing a return.  
  • Include all original accessories and packaging when returning your item(s). Do not include any accessories that did not originally come included.  
  • Ensure that you carefully package your items so that they do not get damaged in transit. We recommend you use the shipping box you initially received your items in to make things easier (just remove original labels before attaching your prepared return label).  

Warranty 

We are happy to offer our customers an industry-leading 2-year extended warranty upon registering their products. To register your product, please visit register.defender.com and follow instructions to submit your registration to us. Once successfully registered, your items will be automatically covered for an additional year from the date of purchase for a total of 2 years of warranty coverage from the original date of purchase.

General Terms

If you purchased your camera directly from Defender or from an authorized Defender distributor or retailer, Defender will repair or replace (at our discretion) your product free of charge (except for shipping cost) for 12 months from the date of purchase, if the product is determined to be defective. The customer should return the defective unit to the original place of purchase first, based on its return or refund policy. If the original vendor’s return/refund policy has expired and this unit is still within this limited manufacturer’s warranty, customers can visit support.defender.com to contact Defender Customer Experience to initiate a repair or replacement. You may need your serial number and/or proof of purchase to validate purchase date.  

If a product is purchased directly from Defender and registered within 90 days for extended coverage, the duration of this warranty will be 24 months from the original date of purchase. Customers can register their products at register.defender.com

In no event shall Defender be liable for any special, incidental, or consequential damages for breach of this or any other warranty, expressed or implied, whatsoever.
